Wins by Great Oaks on Tuesday afternoon and La Alegria on Wednesday set up the final match for the 2010 Hampton Cup at the Bridgehampton Polo Club on Friday morning, September 3 at 10 am-weather permitting. The matchup pits last year’s finalists against one another, with La Alegria (competing in 2009 as White Birch) looking to extract some measure of revenge after last year’s one goal loss. The Bridgehampton Polo Club is heading into its last week of high-goal polo with the pairings of the semifinals of the Hampton Cup being set. Wins by Great Oaks, Black Watch and Equuleus have filled out the playoff matchups for the Hampton Cup semifinals. La Alegria had already earned its playoff position by virtue of a 2-0 record in preliminary action, and will face Equuleus at 4pm in Wednesday’s semifinal. Featured Polo Club:

Originally named the Household Brigade Polo Club, the name was changed to its present form in 1969. Since inception the Club has grown considerably and it is now the largest polo club in Europe in terms of membership and number of grounds.

There are currently about 1,000 non-playing members and about 160 playing members, among whom are some of the highest rated players in the world. Approximately 25 per cent of the players are overseas visitors from Europe, the Middle and Far East, North and South America, Australia and New Zealand. Around half of the playing members are professionals.

Within the Great Park at Windsor, the Club is set in the outstanding natural surroundings of Smith's Lawn, which is thought to have been named after a game keeper at the time of the Restoration in the 17th century. Nearby are the renowned Savill and Valley Gardens. Read more >

The Players Club members and there are a dozen, as well as Verona, also from Modena, Austria, Uruguay, USA.

At Fiorina there are a total of 30 horses, most of them coming from Argentina and Uruguay and trained for playing polo; others are thoroughbreds and quarter horses bred in Italy and converted to the pole.
